JISH Clinician Graduates with M.Sc. in Behavior Analysis from the USA
In June 2009, Ms. Cherine Basfar, one of JISH's clinicians, graduated from Simmons College, Boston, MA in the United States of America, with a Master's Degree in Behavior Analysis. Ms. Basfar was awarded a JISH scholarship to this two-year accredited program. Additionally, while there, Ms. Basfar received her Board Certification in Behavior Analysis (BCBA®). She returned to JISH and started her work in the Applied Behavior Analysis Clinic .
The Women's Cultural Forum in Jeddah Award for Community Service
The Women's Cultural Forum in Jeddah presented a special award to Mrs. Sultana Alireza-Zahid, JISH's Chief Executive Director, for the role of JISH in serving the community. The ceremony was held on 9 March 2009 and was attended by prominent businesswomen and leading charitable and community service ladies in Jeddah.
JISH Clinical Competency Program
After two years of intensive academic and clinical work at the Jeddah Institute for Speech and Hearing, JISH is proud to announce the successful completion of all the requirements of the JISH Clinical Competency Certification Program (JCCCP) by three of the Speech Language Pathologists at JISH. In a small ceremony, JISH celebrated the graduation of Mr. Mutasem Khalaf, Ms. Manar Adwan and Mr. Saed Jaghoub. JISH congratulates the three clinicians for their hard and successful work
Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA®) Clinic at JISH
In November 2008, JISH launched the Applied Behavior Analysis Clinic under the supervision of Dr. Susan Ainsleigh, Ed.D. BCBA-D, Board Certified Behavior Analyst. This clinic provides diagnostic and treatment services to children and individuals with behavioral problems associated with developmental disorders such as Autism, Attention Deficit and ADHD. The program includes behavorial program as well as an educational curriculum for these children.
The Dar Al Hekma Prize for Outstanding Achievement
The Dar Al Hekma College for Girls in Jeddah, awarded Mrs. Sultana Alireza-Zahid, the Chief Executive Director of JISH, the Outstanding Achievement Prize. Mrs. Alireza-Zahid was chosen for this prize for her continuing efforts in community service, and in recognition for the role of JISH in serving persons with special needs in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries. His Royal Highness Prince Khalid Al Faisal, Governor of Makkah Region, presented the prize to Mrs. Alireza-Zahid during the Dar Al Hekma Students' Graduation Ceremony held on 18 June 2008.
The Gulf Disability Association Visits JISH
A delegate from the Gulf Disability Association visited JISH on 24 May 2008, as part of a visit to the major organizations at the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia that cater to the needs of persons with disabilities. The delegate members were Dr. Mohammad Al-Menai', Dr. Nassir Al-Mousa, Dr. Seddiqa Al Awadi, and Mrs. Maha Al-Juffali. Dr. Al-Sharif Zeid Al-Ghalib, the Executive Director of JISH, received the visiting delegate toured all the divisions of the Jeddah Institute for Speech and Hearing and learned about the services JISH provides persons with communication disorders.
JISH 10TH Annual Communication Disorders Symposium
JISH organized the 10th Annual Communication Disorders Symposium on 6-8 May 2008, in cooperation with the Saudi Association for Speech Pathology & Audiology. The symposium included many lectures, papers and workshops presented by key speakers from renowned organizations, such as City Center on Disability Studies in Egypt, King Abdul Aziz University, King Saud University, and the General Directorate of Special Education in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia . The symposium activities were accredited by the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties as continuing education activities for professionals.
JISH Training Programs in the GCC
· JARAS Program in United Arab Emirates (May 2008)
· JARAS Program in the Kingdom of Bahrain (October 2008)
· JARAS Program in Sultanate of Oman (October 2008), in cooperation with UNICEF-OMAN.
JISH has provided the JISH Aural Re-habilitation Activities and Skills (JARAS) training program to special education and deaf students' teachers. Mr. Abdul Rahman Naqawa, Consultant Speech-Language Pathologist and the Co-ordinator of the Aural Oral Re-habilitation Unit at JISH provided trainees with theoretical information and practical strategies to apply the Aural Oral Re-habilitation process to students with hearing impairment.
The Ing borg & Erwin Hochmair Award for Service to the Deaf
JISH was awarded the Ingborg & Erwin Hochmair Award for Service to the Deaf in the Middle East. This prestigious award is presented annually to organizations and individuals for their distinguished efforts in serving deaf or hearing impaired persons. The award was presented to JISH during the 2nd regional Otolaryngology Forum held in Dubai on 2-4 April 2008, organized by the American Hospital in Dubai.
Balance Disorders Clinic at JISH
In March 2008, JISH launched the Balance & Tinnitus Disorders clinic in the Audiology Division. Dr. Malik Abu Safieh, the JISH Audiology Consultant will provide diagnosis and treatment for these disorders.
Community Service Award from Um Al Moumineen Association, Ajman, United Arab Emirates
During its Annual Science Day Celebration, & under the patronage of Shaikha Fatma Bint Zayed Al Nihayan, the Um Al Moumineen Association in Ajman, United Arab Emirates, presented an award to Mrs. Sultana Alireza-Zahid for her notable efforts in serving the community in her capacity as the Chief Executive Director of JISH, by continuously developing clinical services to people with communication disorders in Saudi Arabia and neighboring countries.
Jeddah Prize for Outstanding Achievement
The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce & Industry awarded Mrs. Sultana Alireza-Zahid in 2005 the Outstanding Achievement Prize, in recognition of fourteen years of distinguished community service. Mr. Hamza Waleed Zahid accepted the award on behalf of his mother (Mrs. Sultana) from His Royal Highness Prince Abdulmajeed Bin Abdel Aziz Al Saud, the Former Governor of Makkah Region. Many other government officials, businessmen and businesswomen, and social welfare centers were honored during this ceremony for their services to the City of Jeddah.
